The 35-year-old took a knife from a bar in Vienna’s Brigittenau district and then attacked random passers-by on the street. Four people were injured, police said on Tuesday. The victims of the attack are two women and two men aged 48 to 64, neither of them is in danger.
According to Corina Had, a spokeswoman for the Viennese rescue service, nine rescue teams were operating at the scene, including a special task force. – During the emergency medical care it turned out that fortunately the victims suffered only superficial cuts, minor stab wounds and cuts from the blows of the knife handle – said the spokeswoman. The injured were taken to hospitals.
The knife is stopped
The 35-year-old Austrian was surrounded and arrested by officers from the Brigittenau police station. “The man provided inaccurate information, which could give the impression of a mental disorder” – reports the portal “Vienna Online”.
“After a preliminary investigation, a political or religious motive was deemed unlikely,” the police stressed, adding that they had already identified the identity of the perpetrator, who most likely had mental health problems.
The police appealed to witnesses who recorded video materials or took photos at the scene of the incident not to publish them on social networks for the benefit of the victims and to hand them over to the police for investigation purposes.
