During the briefing before his departure to Budapest, Kumoch emphasized that the summit of the presidents of the Visegrad Group is an opportunity for Duda to tell his partners in the V4 about the situation around Poland, the security situation – both on our eastern border and the situation around Ukraine.

The minister emphasized that the Visegrad Group, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has a strong voice in Europe. As he estimated, he has a voting power similar to that of France and Germany. He pointed out that thanks to the V4 it was possible, inter alia, implementation of the Three Seas project. He assessed that the V4 has so far achieved “a huge diplomatic success” and that its states are agreeing on a common position on key issues for the EU, such as migration issues or the election of the EC president.

He noted that the meeting took place in the last year of the Hungarian presidency of Janos Ader and during the illness of the Czech president Milosz Zeman. He expressed hope that his health would improve.

Kumoch emphasized that the president would talk about the future of the V4. He stressed that this was a very important format for Poland, and Poland did not intend to either give up it or weaken its membership in it.

Kumoch: Poland’s voice must be clearly heard

The second session with the participation of President Duda – said Kumoch – will be devoted to the geostrategic challenges surrounding the V4. – And here the voice of Poland must be heard clearly, our partners must understand what is the situation of Poland at present, that this pressure, the migration pseudo-pressure caused by Alyaksandr Lukashenka today was used against Poland, and tomorrow it can be used against any country in the world by any regime – He said. He stressed that the borders of other countries are under threat due to the fact that “Lukashenka is left with a problem because he has not managed to break through the Polish border, because the attack has been repulsed.”

– We are wondering whether this stream of refugees will later be directed by Ukraine – then the matter would also apply to Hungarians and Slovaks. We are in touch with them all the time and discuss such a scenario, we are prepared for it – he assured.

Asked whether he expected a declaration of support from Poland’s partners by sending soldiers to the Polish-Belarusian one, Kumoch said that they were falling from many countries, including Czech Republic and Estonia, as well as Western partners. He emphasized that currently the Polish armed forces and border guards are able to perform their tasks independently. At the same time, he stressed that “political support is absolutely necessary” and that proposals for symbolic participation of other forces are being considered.

Kumoch stressed that “the point is not to provoke and give Russian propaganda the possibility of creating a false narrative, that NATO forces have been drawn only because Mr. Lukashenka has brought several or several thousand migrants to the Polish border.” He stressed that “you should behave calmly”.

He stressed that the current situation in Poland is “the moment when you meet true friends”.

When asked how the situation in Ukraine, where Russian troops are deployed, will affect the situation of partners in the V4 and Europe, Kumoch noted that three of the four V4 countries border Ukraine. – In fact, I have the impression that all European Union countries are beginning to border on Ukraine, because an attack on it is an attack on Europe – he said. He emphasized that such an attack would threaten the basic principle of international relations, i.e. the inviolability of borders, i.e. any state in Europe.

Therefore, he stressed, the topic will be discussed in Budapest.
