The presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alyaksandr Lukashenko, met in Sochi, Russian media reported on Friday. The meeting takes place in an “informal atmosphere”, and during the conversation the presidents touched upon, among other things, the issue of the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier on Friday, he told journalists that Putin and Lukashenko would meet at the summer residence of the Russian president, Bocharov Ruchai.

During the conversation with Lukashenko, Putin announced that “the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons on the territory Belarus it will begin immediately after the completion of the preparation of the objects on July 7-8, reports the Kommersant daily. Putin said that “everything is going according to plan.”

After talking with the Belarusian leader, Putin is to meet with the heads of delegations taking part in the meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported. She recalled that the previous meeting between Putin and Lukashenko took place at the end of May.
