Wąbrzeźno. The 18-year-old died after police intervention

The 18 -year -old after the police intervention fainted in an ambulance and died after being transported to the Hospital Emergency Department. The police ensure that there has not been irregularities. The case is explained by the prosecutor's office.

On Saturday (April 19) at 1.40, police from Wąbrzeźno received a notification regarding “an aggressive man under the influence of drugs, who makes self -mutilation, hitting his head on the ground.” After arriving at the place, they found an 18-year-old and his 54-year-old grandmother.

– In connection with the behavior of the 18-year-old, the police used physical strength and handcuffs. An ambulance arrived. The 18-year-old was put on a stretch and belt. At the request of the rescuers, one of the policemen got into the ambulance, who then went to the hospital in Grudziadz. The second officer was driving a police car behind an ambulance – said the junior inspector Monika Chlebicz, press officer of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz.

The 18-year-old died in the hospital

She added that “during an ambulance, the man was aggressive, he tried to free himself from the belts and at some point lost consciousness.” Rescuers started resuscitation. Around 2.50, 18-year-old was hospitalized in Grudziadz. The police returned to the command in Wąbrzeźno. After the intervention, the uniforms received information that at 3.15 the man died.

– The prosecutor was informed about the event, as well as internal control services of both the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz and the Police Headquarters and the Police Interior Office. Internal explanatory proceedings are underway in the case, but at this stage we can state that there was no irregularity in the actions of the police, and the means of coercion in the form of physical strength and handcuffs used by them, was applied adequately to the situation and in accordance with the procedures – the younger inspector Chlebicz said.

During the intervention, policemen were not equipped with flexible webcams. The Poviat Police Headquarters in Wąbrzeźno does not have them. A spokeswoman for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian police ensures that officers are experienced policemen. They have been working in a patrol and intervention cell for eight and twelve years.

– In February this year, both of this year underwent specialist training in the field of intervention and responding to non -standard behavior of people – emphasized the younger inspector Monika Chlebicz.

Prosecutor's investigation

A prosecutor's investigation is being conducted in the case.

– Police officers arrived at Piotr S. handcuffed, and then placed him in an ambulance. Medical rescuers – with the assistance of the police, went to the Regional Specialist Hospital in Grudziądz. The patient was still very stimulated and restless. During the ambulance, there was a sudden cardiac arrest, the resuscitation of Piotr S. was taken, during it the patient was transferred to the hospital emergency department. The rescue operations were not effective. Piotr S.'s death was found at 3.15 – said prosecutor Andrzej Kukawski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Toruń.

The preliminary results of the autopsy show that the direct cause of death was circulatory and respiratory failure. – The deceased revealed bruising on the forearms and abrasions on the wrists, abrasions on the knees and numerous superficial scratches and abrasions on the face. There were no running on the inside of the skull, no fractures and traumatic changes within the neck and neck were not revealed. Blood for tests for the presence of alcohol and toxicological tests, as well as hair samples was taken. Internal organs for histopathological tests were also secured – added prosecutor Kukawski.
