If Yevgeny Prigozhin took the Kremlin and one of the television broadcasting centers, he would have a chance to win it, said Radosław Sikorski, MEP, former head of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, about the rebellion of the Wagner Group and its march on Moscow in “Fakty po Faktach”. According to him, the head of the mercenaries “must have had some support from within the power structures, or at least the illusion of such support.”

Former head of the Ministry of National Defense and Foreign Affairs, and currently a PO MEP Radoslaw Sikorski spoke in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the conflict between the Wagner Group and the Russian forces and the armed rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s mercenaries. On Saturday, the formation started its march on Moscow, but stopped in front of the capital and concluded an agreement with the authorities.

As Sikorski said, “The Wagner Group was well prepared.” – They had tanks on the tow trucks, so a simple barricade, police or even Putin’s security forces would not be enough. But in the end there was no political determination, so we don’t know how it would have ended in a purely military sense, he said.

– It seems to me that if Prigozhin took the Kremlin and one of the television broadcasting centers, he had a chance to win it. He must have had some support from within the power structures, or at least the illusion of such support – judged the TVN24 guest.

“It was, so to speak, an attempt at a special operation to change the government,” he added.

When asked if the situation was beyond Putin’s control for a moment, the former foreign minister pointed out that it is said that “he had foreknowledge, but not long before.”

“And I think he played it wrong because at the end he made an agreement that he now says he will keep. These are obvious concessions under threat. This does not build the image of an all-powerful Putin. It also shows that the arguments in the West that Putin must not be humiliated, that he must not be pushed too far, are absurd, because it turns out that Putin only yields under maximum pressure, he argued.

According to him, “Prigozhin was trying to save his business model, his company.” “He risked a lot, but he wasn’t ready to go all the way and now he’s going to pay the price.”

“Ukraine’s chances of receiving an invitation to join NATO are growing”

Sikorski also talked about what for Ukraine can count during the July peak FOR THIS in Vilnius. “From what I hear, with this turmoil in Russia, Ukraine’s chances of being invited to NATO are rather increasing,” he said.

He made a reservation that “an invitation is not a membership yet”. – But so far there was rather an expectation that it wouldn’t happen, that it might not happen until next year in Washington. Now the chances are higher, although not necessarily above 50 percent, he assessed.

“Kaczyński in his pride was unable to take a normal place”

Sikorski also spoke about the photo from the government meeting, which was published on Twitter on Tuesday Law and Justice. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki he is not sitting on it alone, as usual, presiding over government meetings, but this time next to him is Jarosław Kaczyńskiserving as Deputy Prime Minister. In addition, in the entry mentioning who chairs the meeting, the president of PiS was mentioned first and called him prime minister.

– I was in governments under five different prime ministers for 14 years, I have never seen anything like this – commented the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”.

According to the MEP, “it’s funny because Kaczyński, in his hubris, was clearly unable to take the normal seat reserved for the deputy prime minister.” – But there is also a political message here, because this is Poland’s extreme party-like attitude – he assessed. As Sikorski said, Kaczyński “transfers the party hierarchy to state structures.” “It’s absurd,” he said.
