The European Union (EU) and Japan have not backed a US-proposed plan to ban almost all exports to Russia, the Financial Times reported.
The G7 leaders’ statement, which is being prepared for a meeting in Hiroshima next month, promises to replace the current sectoral sanctions regime against the Russian Federation with a complete export ban with a few exceptions, including for agricultural and medical products, writes the newspaper .

However, as writes “FT”, citing informed sources, representatives Japan and EU countries at a meeting last week spoke out against the implementation of the US proposal.
“From our point of view, it’s simply not possible,” said one official, who requested anonymity.
The White House National Security Council reportedly declined to comment on the FT’s talks with G7 partners, saying that United States they will continue to look for ways to pull Russia responsible for war in Ukraine.
