The results of the survey were published on the official website of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. The survey was conducted on May 8-25. in the territories controlled by Ukrainians.
One of the most important questions that the respondents heard was the issue of support for starting peace negotiations with the Russian Federation. The answer “yes” was indicated by 57 percent of respondents. 38 percent believed that peace talks should not be initiated at this time, while 5 percent had no opinion on the matter.
The number of supporters of stopping the fighting and conversations between Kiev and Moscow is growing regularly. In the last survey of this type, in November 2023, 42 percent were in favor of negotiations, which means an increase of 15 percentage points. An even greater increase can be seen in comparison with May 2023, when “for” peace talks with Russia 33 percent of respondents were in favor.
Ukrainians on Peace Talks with Russia. They Set Specific Conditions
Expanding on the issue of possible peace negotiations Ukrainy and Russia, the survey organizers asked about peace conditions that would be acceptable to the respondents.
66 percent of respondents are convinced that talks can have a positive effect only if Ukraine regains its territorywhich has been annexed by Russia since 2014, including Donbas and Crimea.
Slightly fewer, i.e. 60 percent, emphasize that stopping the fighting and establishing the border on the current front line is necessary. “completely unacceptable”.
53 percent of those taking part in the survey he cannot imagine the authorities in Kiev rejecting the possibility of membership in European Unionand 49 percent would not accept the agreement if the Ukrainian authorities refused to join NATO.
