North Macedonia is to transfer military equipment to Ukraine. The government in Skopje is developing a military aid package, said Macedonian Defense Minister Slavjanka Petrovska. As announced, it will include 12 Mi-24 combat helicopters.

Macedonian Defense Minister Slavyanka Petrovska told Alsat TV that the analysis had just been completed by the general staff, which agreed to transfer Ukraine Mi-24 helicopters. She added that the decision would be confirmed at the next government meeting.

– This is equipment that the Ukrainian army is able to use and which – in accordance with our modernization plans – will not soon be an integral part of our armament – she explained. She noted that the decision would not affect the combat readiness of the Macedonian army in any way.

Mi-24 helicopters were delivered to North Macedonia in 2001 after they were bought by Skopje from Ukraine.

“We are clearly on the side of Ukraine”

Petrovskaya informed that, excluding the finalized package containing 12 helicopters, her country has so far provided Ukraine with equipment worth EUR 30 million.

On Thursday, during a meeting in Skopje with the Minister of Foreign Affairs German Annalena Baerbock, the head of Macedonian diplomacy, Bujar Osmani, recalled that “from the first day of the Russian invasion, we have clearly taken the side of Ukraine, criticizing Moscow’s unprovoked aggression.”

North Macedonia it is the fourth country per capita FOR THIS in terms of providing Kiev with military assistance. We have also joined all the sanctions and in this respect our policy has been fully aligned with the EU’s – added Osmani.

Sławjanka Pietrowska also informed that the government is in the final phase of evaluating five offers for the state’s purchase of eight multi-role combat helicopters.
