Barabasz, who previously informed the media about the great difficulties with evacuating children from the city under fire, explained that parents often refused to leave, despite the threat to their children.

Avdiivka is the second, next to Bakhmut, direction of the Russian attack in the Donetsk region. The city is almost completely destroyed by artillery and air force Russia. The village is in the “red zone”, which means that journalists, volunteers and other civilians cannot enter it.

On 10 April, the head of the authorities of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, announced that about 1,800 inhabitants remained in Avdiivka, where around 32,000 people lived before the start of the Russian military invasion.
