At the same time, Yevgeny Prigozhin warned against a “major attack” by Ukrainian forces planned for late March or early April. “I am asking you to take all necessary measures to prevent Wagner’s private military company from being cut off from the main forces of the Russian army, which would lead to negative consequences for the special military operation,” the letter said. Moscow consistently uses the term “special military operation” to refer to the war being waged on Ukraine.

Prigozhin added that in an undisclosed attachment to the letter, he provided the minister with details about the Ukrainian plan and his proposals on how to oppose it. He did not reveal where exactly the Ukrainian attack would take place, nor did he explain how he knew about Ukraine’s military plans.

As noted by the Reuters agency, this is the first time Yevgeny Prigozhin has published this type of correspondence with Sergei Shoigu, whom he has repeatedly criticized for his conduct war in Ukraine. “This unusual move seems to have two possible goals: to prevent Ukrainian commanders from being surprised, and to place the blame on Shoigu, not Prigozhin, if the alleged Ukrainian maneuver proves successful,” it said.
