Details of aerial actions Russia revealed in a daily intelligence update published by the UK Ministry of Defense. London calculates that the number of drone attacks launched from Russia on Ukraine fell – in December Iranian-made Shahed drones flew on average about 1,700 timeswhile another month previously there were 2,300 such actions.

“It means this first reduction in the total number of launches since April 2024.” – emphasizes British intelligence. According to analysts, mainly “weather factors” were behind the decline in the number of such attacks, but after short “breaks” Moscow attacked in waves with over 100 drones. These were followed by further periods of “particularly low activity”.

“The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 53 percent of Russian drones were shot downand the rest were immobilized as a result of electronic warfare or had already deviated from the course, posing no significant threat,” it said.

War in Ukraine. “Russia uses smaller, cheaper drones”

“Various factors may positively or negatively affect the monthly number of launches, but it remains likely that Russia will manage to maintain the number of launches at a level of at least 1,500 per month,” it added in a summary of the update on the situation on the front.

British intelligence also suggested that Russia is increasingly using smaller, cheaper dronesto complicate Ukrainian air defense efforts. The machines, often carrying “modest” explosives, are designed to confuse Ukraine's radar systems and force Kyiv to shoot down drones every time.

The information from London came just a few hours after a difficult night in Ukraine – Russia launched a total of 110 drones on the territory of its neighbor, which managed to shoot down 78 machines. In turn, 31 unmanned aerial vehicles did not reach their destination.
