Two Russian commanders, Col. Vyacheslav Makarov and Col. Yevgeny Browko, were killed in the fighting in the Donetsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Sunday. According to unconfirmed information, the officers were to die in a successful artillery fire from the Russian headquarters near Bakhmut.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that two military commanders had died during the fighting in Ukraine. “Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov and Colonel Yevgeny Brovko were killed in combat in the Donetsk region,” the statement said.

Ukrainian counterattacks in Bakhmut

The ministry did not disclose where exactly the two commanders were supposed to have died, but later in the communiqué it provided information about Ukrainian counterstrikes in the vicinity of Bakhmut, located in the Donetsk region. The media also associate the deaths of both commanders with the last few days Ukrainian attacks and artillery shelling in the area of ​​Bakhmut. As reported by the independent Russian portal Meduza, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, Col. Vyacheslav Makarov was seriously injured near the village of Krasne near Bakhmut and died during the evacuation from the battlefield.
