War in Ukraine. Russia's losses in people are approaching a million

The war of Russia against Ukraine cost the life or health of almost a million Russian soldiers – according to the latest report of the Ukrainian General Staff. According to estimates also based on the data of American analysts, Moscow suffered greater personal losses in this war than in all armed conflicts since the end of World War II.

“The opponent's general war losses from February 24, 2022 to June 11, 2025 were approximately 999,200 people,” said the Ukrainian General Staff. As passed, only 1120 soldiers of the Russian army were killed during the last day of killed or injured.

The center pointed out that “the level of mortality among Ukrainians is also high.” According to the Ukrainian loss center in the war with Russia, they amounted to 60-100 thousand killed and at least 300,000 wounded. “The total number of victims (killed and wounded) is about 400,000” – said in the report.

The Russians have not lost so much blood since World War II

CSIS noticed that the average daily number of victims on the side of Russia has been growing since 2022, and many soldiers who died or were injured in Ukraine came from Russian regions in the far North, the Far East or prisoners, “and they are not children of the Moscow and St. Petersburg elite.”

According to Think Tanku, Russia suffered greater personal losses in the war with Ukraine than in all Russian and Soviet wars, combined since the end of World War II.

“The number of Russian victims in Ukraine in just three years (war) is 15 times greater than during the 10-year war of the USSR in Afghanistan and 10 times greater than during the 13-year war of Russia in Chechnya”-wrote in the CSIS report.
