The British government is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Challenger 2 tanks, Sky News reported. The station said there were ten vehicles.

Delivery discussions Ukraine Challenger 2s belonging to the British Army have been rolling “for several weeks”, a Western source familiar with the matter told Sky News. “The delivery of the tanks would mean a significant increase in Western support for Ukraine, but the British government has yet to make a final decision on this,” Sky News said.

The British TV website quoted a Ukrainian source as commenting that the possible delivery of ten Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine – enough to equip a squadron – could encourage other allies to do the same. – That would encourage others to donate tanks. It will be a good precedent to demonstrate to others, first of all to the Germans with their Leopards… and Abrams from the United States,” the source commented.

The Challenger 2 is a heavily armored battle tank that has been in service with the British Army since 1994. According to the British Army, this model was used in Bosnia and HerzegovinaKosovo and Iraq.

The British Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the matter. According to Sky News, Rishi Sunak’s government has yet to make a final decision, but if so Great Britain if it did, it would become the first country to respond to the Ukrainian leadership’s pleas for Western tanks, not just Soviet-era tanks.

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said last week that Britain would continue to work with its Western allies to provide military support to Ukraine.
