This subsidy is disbursed through the World Bank Public Expenditure Mechanism for Maintaining Administrative Capacity (PEACE) on a reimbursable basis after verified expenditure.

“These funds are crucial for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia and provides the Ukrainian government with the ability to continue to meet the critical needs of its citizens, including healthcare, education and emergency services. Continued US efforts have helped bring together other international donors, including the European Commission , JapanCanada and the United Kingdom to provide Ukraine with the economic assistance it needs.

In addition, the US will allocate another $250 million to help Ukraine’s energy system. These funds are to help ensure the functioning of schools, cover the costs of power generators for hospitals, as well as heating homes and shelters throughout Ukraine.

“This aid adds to the $270 million the United States has already committed to strengthening Ukraine’s energy security over the past year,” the State Department explained.

Earlier on Friday, the U.S. Department of Defense announced a new $2 billion aid package for Kiev to help bolster Ukraine’s air defense.
