There was no support in the United States Senate to adopt a financial package combining the issues of protecting US borders against migration and aid for Kiev in the war with Russia. However, this does not eliminate the chance for money. On the same day, a vote on a separate US support package for Ukraine is planned, which has a chance of being approved.

As Marcin Wrona, the correspondent of “Fakty” TVN, reported from Washington, the vote on the first financial package took place around 9 p.m. Polish time.

The package “combined aid for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, but also humanitarian aid for the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip (…) with migration reform,” he explained. – And this package has already become history. In short, it ended up in the dustbin of history, he said.

The project failed as expected after most Republicans, encouraged by the government, turned against the compromise reached after months of negotiations. Donald Trump.

The failure of the project does not eliminate the chances of adopting other solutions regarding support for Ukraine. Another vote on a separate support package for America’s partners is planned on the same day, and it has a chance of being supported by a majority of senators so that it can be proceeded further.

Earlier – in December – Republicans in the Senate rejected a “clean” bill with funds for Ukraine and Israeldemanding a stricter migration policy on the southern border USA. However, once the bipartisan restrictions project was announced – allowing the president to “close the border” and significantly tightening the asylum procedure – Republicans turned against it, mainly due to intense pressure from former President Donald Trump. Some party politicians, including the leader of the Republicans in the Senate Mitch McConnellsuggested that Trump did not want the bill to be passed because the crisis at the border is beneficial to him in the election campaign.

Republican co-author of the compromise bill, James Lankford – who voted in favor – said that even before the details of the bill were known, a “popular TV commentator” had threatened him that if he tried to solve the border crisis in elections presidential elections, he will “do everything in his power to destroy him.” Trump himself and his supporters claimed that the proposed changes would only worsen the migration situation.
