The American daily cites four sources. Boris Epshteynwho coordinated Trump's criminal legal defense, reportedly made the suggestion Donald Trumpthat he could become a special envoy of the American president regarding the war in Ukraine.
The New York Times notes that Epshteyn was born in Russiain Moscow, and lived there as a child. The newspaper indicates that the lawyer has no experience in international politics, but assures that his family members are on both sides of the conflict.
According to the daily, some of Trump's associates were “shocked” by the proposal, but he himself listened to it with interest. However, he has not made a decision yet.
The great power of Boris Epshteyn
The editors also emphasize that Trump has already granted Epshteyn broad powers and was supposedly surprised by the scope of his power Elon Muskwho participates in meetings devoted to the transformation plans of the new White House administration.
The newspaper adds that in 2017, during Trump's first term, Epshteyn left his position in the White House communications office due to a problem with security clearance. The problem has now been resolved, but Epshteyn is said to want to remain outside the government.
“In Trump's world, the lack of an official title means little when it comes to measuring influence,” the NYT emphasizes.
