Ukraine has developed and is testing its own medium-range air defense systems. They can be compared with the American HAWK missile system, Yehor Cherniev, deputy chairman of the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said on Saturday. The politician also added that the Ukrainian defense industry engaged “maximum resources to increase the production of ammunition.”

Yehor Cherniev, Deputy Chairman of the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Ukraine, stated in a Saturday television interview that “we have the latest air defense systems.” “Currently, these are medium-range systems. Of course, they are not equivalent to the Patriot, SAMP-T or IRIS-T systems, but I think they can be compared with HAWK. These are Ukrainian-made systems,” he said, quoted by the Interfax-Ukraina agency.

The MP said that the system created in Ukraine is now “testing and quite successful”.

The politician also added that the Ukrainian defense industry engaged “maximum resources to increase the production of ammunition.” Both state and private structures are involved in this process.

“The bullet produced in Ukraine is three times cheaper than what we buy in other countries, for example, 122 and 152 mm ammunition,” Cherniev said.
