Germany are and remain the biggest supporters Ukrainy in Europe” – wrote the German Chancellor on Platform X Olaf Scholzmentioning the launch with the group G7 credit of EUR 50 billion. “This enables Ukraine to acquire weapons on a large scale. It can build on this” – Scholz argued in his post.

This declaration is probably Scholz's reaction to reports in the German media, according to which Germany introduces a ban on planning new spending on military aid for Ukraine.

War in Ukraine. Will Germany “turn off the tap”?

“Most of the previously approved equipment will be delivered, but additional applications submitted by the Ministry of Defence, in accordance with the recommendation of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, are to be rejected” – write Peter Carstens and Konrad Schuller in an article published on Saturday in the online edition of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.

The authors refer to a letter from Finance Minister Christian Lindner addressed on August 5 to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

The editors explain that all funds (approx. EUR 8 billion) allocated for military aid to Ukraine this year have already been planned, and the upper limit of expenditure for next year (EUR 4 billion) has also been exhausted and with excess.

“No new spending is possible,” the authors conclude. Only three billion euros have been earmarked for 2026, and just half a billion euros for 2027 and 2028. “It's over. The cash register is empty” – quotes an anonymous representative of the “FAZ” government.

Meanwhile, the German government has denied that it will reduce military aid to Ukraine. A government spokesman confirmed that the cabinet expects Ukraine's international partners to release the loan next year, which will be repaid from the profits from frozen Russian assets.
