Mayor of Mikołajki Piotr Jakubowski (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) announced on social media that a moose had been walking the streets of the city for several weeks. He appealed not to approach a wild animal, even to take a selfie.
The mayor of Mikołajki addressed the residents and tourists via a social networking site. He provided his entry with a photo of a handsome elk eating plants from a flower bed in front of one of the tourist resorts, near the city beach and the center of Mikołajki.
“For several weeks, a moose has been walking the streets of Mikołajki. He felt so good in Mikołajki that he settled in the city permanently” – wrote the mayor.
As he emphasized, however, it is important to remember that this is a wild animal, so you should keep an appropriate distance. “Not all of us know how to act in the event of an encounter with a wild animal, and the lack of knowledge can end tragically for both man and animal, which will behave unpredictably if frightened” – he warned.
Moose in Mikołajki, the mayor appeals for calm
The mayor explained that you should remain calm and not scare the moose. “Under no circumstances can you approach an animal, even to take a selfie with an elk! And the last one – you must not feed the animals” – recalled Jakubowski.
The message shows that the municipality has taken appropriate measures to catch the animal, but “the procedure is in progress” and is waiting for the decision of the County Office in Mrągowo. “I hope that May will be safe for residents and tourists, and the moose will find a safe shelter in a place away from the city,” wrote the mayor.
Mikołajki – located between Mikołajskie and Tałty lakes – has been one of the most popular summer resorts and water sports centers in Masuria for years.
