On Sunday, the celebration of the 13th anniversary of the Smolensk catastrophe will take place, postponed by almost a week due to Easter. In the evening, President Andrzej Duda will attend a mass for the victims of the disaster, and PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński will speak in front of the Presidential Palace.

On Sunday before noon, state ceremonies related to the 13th anniversary of the Smolensk catastrophe will take place at Piłsudski Square. This year, due to Easter, they were postponed by a week, although on April 10, President Andrzej Duda laid wreaths in front of the monuments in Smolensk and Lech Kaczyński, and on the graves of the victims in Powązki Cemetery. He also visited the tomb of the presidential couple in Wawel.

Celebration program

Mass will be held at 8:00 am. for the victims of the catastrophe in the seminary church of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph the Husband in Warsaw (ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 52/54). After the mass, there will be an Appeal of Remembrance in front of the Presidential Palace (8.41) and the laying of wreaths in front of the monuments of President Lech Kaczyński and the monument to the Victims of the Smolensk Catastrophe on Piłsudski Square (9.00-9.15)

At 7 p.m. with the participation of President Andrzej Duda in the Archcathedral Basilica of Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw (Świętojańska 8) a holy mass will be celebrated for the victims of the disaster.

After the mass, a March of Remembrance is planned from the cathedral towards the Presidential Palace. At 9 p.m., the president of PiS, Jarosław Kaczyński, will give a speech in front of the palace.

Film screenings and concerts in front of the Presidential Palace are planned throughout the day.

Closed streets

Therefore, both the square and the surrounding streets of Focha, Królewska, Moliera and Wierzbowa will be closed to traffic for several hours. During this time, public transport buses will be directed to detour routes.

Between 6 am and 12 noon, the following streets will be closed to traffic: Focha, Królewska, Moliera, pl. Piłsudski and Wierzbów. From the beginning of operation until around noon, buses of the line will be directed to detour routes 106, 111, 116, 128, 175, 178, 180, 222, 503 and 518.

Detour list

Line buses 106going south of Warsaw, they will pass Grzybowski Square to reach Emilii Plater Street, turn back and take Świętokrzyska Street to reach their main route. Towards the Ostroroga terminus, from the Świętokrzyska-Mazowiecka intersection, buses will run through Świętokrzyska and Marszałkowska streets.

Line 111 in the direction of Gocław, it will be directed from Plac Bankowy straight onto Marszałkowska Street, then through Al. Jerozolimskie to the de Gaulle roundabout. In the other direction, buses from the intersection of Świętokrzyska and Mazowiecka will go along Świętokrzyska and Marszałkowska to Plac Bankowy.

lines 116, 180 and 503 in the direction of Wilanów and Natolin Płn. They will be directed from Krasiński Square via Kapucyńska Street to the WZ route and further along Marszałkowska Street and Aleje Jerozolimskie to the main routes. Świętokrzyska, Marszałkowska and Senatorska to Miodowa will go in the direction of Chomiczówka and Konwiktorska.

lines 128 and 175 will be withdrawn from the loop at pl. Pilsudski. From the intersection of Marszałkowska-Królewska streets, they will go along Królewska street, through pl. Grzybowski, Twarda, Emilii Plater, where they will turn back at ul. Sienna and will stop at the temporary Emilia Plater 02 loop. Returning to both Szczęśliwice and Chopin Airport, both lines will follow the same detour route to Marszałkowska and basic routes.

Line buses 178 and 518, going towards Skoroszy and Emilia Plater from Miodowa Street, they will turn into Kapucyńska Street and through the WZ Route they will reach pl. Bankowy and Marszałkowska. On the way back to Konwiktorska and Nowodwory, at the intersection of Świętokrzyska and Marszałkowska, they will be directed to the northern part of Marszałkowska Street, and then turn right into Senatorska.

Line 222 will not reach the terminus at Bielańska Street. At the intersection of Świętokrzyska and Marszałkowska streets, it will turn into Świętokrzyska to reach Emilii Plater and the temporary terminus of Emilii Plater 02. Buses of this line, on their way to Spartańska, will pass through Emilii Plater, Świętokrzyska to reach Nowy Świat and their regular route.
