Warsaw. A 14-year-old boy who was hit at a pedestrian crossing died. The police are looking for the bus driver. Surveillance footage

On Friday in Wola, a bus driver hit a teenager at a pedestrian crossing and fled. The injured person was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he died. The police are looking for the perpetrator of the incident and have also published a photo of the vehicle. A surveillance video appeared online, showing that the boy was on the zebra crossing.

As Deputy Commissioner Jacek Wiśniewski from the Warsaw Police Headquarters told us, the accident occurred on Friday after 5 p.m. near the intersection of Ordona and Jana Kazimierza streets.

– The bus driver hit a teenager at a marked crossing without traffic lights. He did not provide assistance to the injured person and left the scene. The pedestrian was taken to hospital in a serious condition, said Deputy Commissioner Wiśniewski on Saturday morning.

Before 2 p.m., Superintendent Marta Sulowska from the Warsaw IV District Police Headquarters announced that the pedestrian who was hit died in hospital. He was 14 years old.

The boy had absolute priority

The police are looking for the vehicle and its driver. It is known that it was a delivery bus, probably white or gray in color. The officers have monitoring that is being analyzed.

As TVN24 reporter Mariusz Sidorkiewicz found out, the recording available to the police is blurry and does not answer the question about the car's make and registration numbers. – Analysis of this recording initially confirms the version that the 14-year-old was on a zebra at the time of the impact, which means he had absolute priority – said the reporter.

– The boy was resuscitated immediately after being hit by a several-ton car. He was later taken to hospital in critical condition. There, doctors fought for his life for several hours, but the child's life could not be saved, he reported.

Footage from surveillance cameras also appeared online. It shows that the boy was on the seat belt at the time of the accident, so he had the right of way.

The version about the boy's priority was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Jacek Wiśniewski in a conversation with Mariusz Sidorkiewicz. – The perpetrator of this tragedy is the driver who left the scene – he said.

The policeman emphasized that recordings recorded by car cameras of drivers passing nearby can be very helpful in determining who was driving the vehicle.

– We have recorded the event itself. Perhaps this escaping vehicle will be registered on another street, adjacent to the scene of the incident, the policeman said.

“All persons who witnessed the incident or have information regarding this matter (e.g. recording from a car camera) are asked to contact the Warsaw IV District Police Headquarters by phone at 47 72 394 50 (the phone is open 24 hours a day) or by calling the emergency number 112 ” – we read in a statement from the Warsaw Police.
