Warsaw. A large tender for the traffic lighting project. They want to improve safety at seven intersections

The Warsaw City Road Administration is looking for a contractor who will design lights at seven intersections, in five districts. There will be a total of 24 signals to be made.

The tender for the design of traffic lights at seven intersections is the result of a safety audit for pedestrian crossings carried out in 2016-2020.

Where will the signals stand?

As the Municipal Road Administration informs, the new signaling will be designed, among others For the intersection of ul. Father Popiełuszki from ul. Gojawiczyńska and ul. Czaki. “There are five pedestrian crossings. One by ul. Gojawiczyńska managed by the district office, hence it was not subject to audit. In turn, three zebras leading through Ks. Popiełuszki Street – including the track – were evaluated in the audit at 1 (on a scale of 0-5).

The lights will also appear at the intersection of Lazurowa Streets and 303 Squadron in Bemowo. The signaling is to improve not only the smoothness of movement in this place, but also safety. There are two pedestrian crossings. Through ul. Lazurowa was estimated at 4. In turn, by ul. Squadron 303 received a rating of 3.

The tender was also included in the intersection of Marymoncka and Twardowska streets. The passages through Marymoncka were not audited, but both are marked out by a wide road with two lanes. There is also a school nearby.

Further signaling devices will appear along ul. Wysocki in Targówek. The first is the intersection with ul. Syrokomli, through which two transitions lead. In the audit, both received a rating of 4. Zebry was rated worse through ul. Wysockiego – at 2 and 3. At the intersection with ul. There are three passages Palestinian. Two were estimated at 3 – by ul. Palestyńska and through the western road ul. Wysocki. Crossing the eastern road received a rating of 0.

“Before the passages through Wysockiego Street, release thresholds were installed at this intersection. However, this is an emergency solution,” ZDM stated.

Road workers emphasized that ad hoc solutions, such as release thresholds, were also used last year at the intersections of ul. Kijowska with Brzeska and Markowska streets. There are four transitions on each. In the audit they obtained low ratings from 0 to 3. Therefore, both crosses were on the list of places where signaling will be designed.

Eight months to prepare the project

For the offers of companies, willing to design lights, city road workers are waiting until April 9. The selected contractor will have 240 days for this task from the date of signing the contract.

“Traffic lights are just one of many ways to improve safety. We use it in places where other solutions would not have the desired effect. From 2016 we have improved security at about 670 pedestrian crossings. Among them, the lights appeared at over 170. In addition to the signaling, we build asylum aslets or mount the release thresholds before the zeal” – he summed up.
