Although it was “only” about the theft of a purse, which did not contain anything of excessive value, the police approached the matter honorably. Because the injured party was a “lost and helpless” person. Two suspects were detained.

“Police officers always try to identify and arrest the perpetrators of reported crimes. It does not matter whether the theft involved astronomical sums or whether the victim lost trinkets of little value. Sometimes, catching the perpetrators becomes a matter of honour for the police officers. This was also the case in the case of the theft of the sachet,” said Deputy Inspector Joanna WÄ™grzyniak, spokeswoman for the District Police Headquarters of Warsaw VII, in a statement.

Lost, helpless, robbed

This ambitious approach appeared among the policemen from Praga Południe when they saw who the two young men had robbed. They decided that they had to identify them and arrest them as soon as possible.

As Węgrzyniak describes, the victim was lost and helpless, he asked young people he passed on the sidewalk how to get to a specific store. They told him, but when he returned a moment later and met them again, without any scruples or explanation they took the bag hanging over his shoulder and ran away.

“They actually stole all his documents and a few trinkets of little value. However, they clearly took advantage of the victim's weakness, and that made the police officers nervous,” the policewoman says.

The officers analyzed all the evidence and traces step by step. That's how they determined who the men were. They arrested them one after another, a few days apart.

They didn't find anything valuable in the bag.

“The 23-year-old and the 19-year-old were charged with jointly and severally committing theft and will be held criminally liable for this crime. They admitted that there was nothing of value to them in the bag and that they later threw it away in anger,” reports the spokeswoman for the South Prague police.

The suspects face up to five years in prison.
