Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat won the competition for the director of the Universal Theater Zygmunt Hübner. He will take a position from September this year for five artistic seasons – the capital city hall said on Friday evening.

The commission recommended to the President of Warsaw Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat for the Director of the Universal Theater Zygmunt Hübner. During the second meeting of the Commission, which took place on January 24, individual talks were held with all candidates and candidates who met the formal conditions of the competition. The conversations concerned legal, organizational and theater functioning, and above all action programs and the development of institutions.

The town hall said that according to the concept, the theater is to present a wide artistic spectrum, from classics to avant -garde. He is to speak in a public debate. It is to remain popular and available to a wide audience. It will be an open place for young artists and their new young audience.

Program priorities include, among others: the development of cooperation with international institutions and artistic centers, also with the environment of new media, design of new, large productions so as to maintain a balance between operating costs and influence from ticket sales, including residents of Warsaw in the theater activities by the theater by Program of workshops, discussions, meetings, effective use of institution resources to create space presentation space for interdisciplinary events, concerts, exhibitions.

Who is Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat?

Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat studied psychology at the University of Warsaw and directing at the Theater Academy in Warsaw, where she currently works as a lecturer in the field of directing. She is a graduate of the Krakow Academy of Theater Arts, she debuted with the spectacle “Jordan” by A. Reynolds and M. Buffini in 2001 at the Słowacki Theater in Krakow. Professionally associated with theaters in Kraków, Warsaw, Hamburg, Ljubań, Poznań, Opole, Bydgoszcz, and Wałbrzych.

Her performances were shown at festivals, among others: in Venice (“rage” of Jelinek), Paris (“Shakespeare's Midsummer” Shakespeare), London (“Macbeth” Shakespeare), Berlin (“Sleepy Shakespeare's Shakespeare”, Tibilisi ( “Twilight of the gods” according to the script by L. Visconti), Seoul (“Macbeth” Shakespeare), Madrid (“under pressure” according to the script by J. Cassavets).

She has been awarded many times, including the bronze medal “Merit to culture Gloria Artis”, politics passport or the Grand Prix of the divine comedy.

In 2017, she became a laureate of the Silver Lion of the Venice Biennale for innovation in the theater.
