Nurogęsi hatch in the hollows of old trees in the Royal Łazienki. From there, among others through the busy Czerniakowska, they get to the Vistula. Then officials, services and volunteers enter the action to help in a safe crossing. This season, 63 chicks reached the river. It's a record.

“During this breeding period, as many as 63 chicks and mothers arrived safely from the Royal Łazienki to the Wisła district,” said the Green Board. From April 10 to May 7, six duck families passed through Wisłostrada.

“Their difficult journey was secured by a record number of volunteers,” the Green Board emphasized. 27 volunteers and 14 employees of the Green Board supervised the security of Nurogęsi. The campaign is also supported by Royal Łazienki, both in organizing the transition and informing the park's guests about these unusual, rare birds. The route is also secured by the City Guard.

Volunteers help Families Nurogęsa in the crossing to the Vistula

“This action is already tradition and privilege”

“Nurogęsi feel safer in Warsaw thanks to our volunteers. This action is already a tradition and a privilege of participating in something special,” the Green Board emphasized. These are patrols in the Royal Łazienki and on the Piaseczno Canal. Sometimes they are not easy because of the time when at 5 am you had to be ready that the mother decides to “cross” and you need to stop traffic on the street.

The action is to see the Mother of Nurogęsa as soon as possible and help in a safe crossing to the Vistula. Volunteers help in this, who walk three times a day around the Piaseczyński channel and pond in Łazienki. Gardeners in Royal Łazienki and the guards who are there were also trained. Traffic management skills were also acquired by an additional group of employees of the Green Board. They work with the police and the city guard.

They stuff to the Vistula

Every year in April and May, the Nurogęsi family from the Royal Łazienki Piaseczyński Canal, ul. Myśliwiecka and Czerniakowska are going to the Czerniakowski port.

Nurogęsi are protected within the Natura 2000 area of the Central Vistula Valley. In Warsaw, they nest almost exclusively in Królewskie Łazienki and the surrounding area, despite the fact that Nurogyś does not belong to park species, and the park is away from the Vistula.

Before the birds move to the riverbed, they inhabit the hollow of trees. They feed mainly on fish, which they lack in park tanks and channels. Therefore, immediately after hatching, mother's chicks lead them to the Vistula. In the water, mothers transport young on the back. In this way, they protect them from dangers, but also oil them with their secretions from the co -gland, protecting the chicks against soaking.
