Eight months after the tragic accident, there are allegations against the tram driver after the death of a four-year-old boy. The four-year-old was getting out of the carriage, the door slammed him, and the tram started.

– In the Praga Północ District Prosecutor’s Office, the man driving the tram was charged with Art. 177 pairs 2 kk. He was accused of intentionally violating the safety rules in land traffic and the provisions of the Instructions for Warsaw Trams employees and unintentionally causing a fatal accident, Katarzyna Skrzeczkowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office told us. – The collected evidence indicates that he used the phone and headphones while driving, incorrectly observed the events taking place within the last door, and after closing the door he did not make sure that starting from the stop would not pose a threat to passengers getting off and staying at the stop. He spent too little time assessing the situation around the tram, she added.

The suspect pleaded not guilty and declined to comment. He faces eight years in prison.

The tragedy happened in mid-August around 11.40 am on line 18 on Jagiellońska Street at the “Platerówek” Battalion stop. An old-type tram, going towards the Żerań FSO terminus, participated in it.

A four-year-old child was dragged by a tram along the track. Everything pointed to a slammed door. The boy could not be saved.

The tragedy occurred when the child was getting out of the warehouse together with his guardian. It was the baby’s grandmother. The woman was transported to the hospital. She was under the care of a psychologist. Psychological support was also provided to the child’s parents.

The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, wrote on Twitter that his heart and thoughts are “with the family of a small boy who died as a result of a terrible accident involving a tram in Praga-Północ”. “We will do everything to help the services to explain the causes of the tragedy,” he announced.
