Just recently, road engineers boasted that two years after the opening of the POW tunnel in Ursynów, there had been no accidents. This changed on Wednesday before noon. The truck hit the back of a passenger car. Two people were injured.

– At 11:01 we received information about a collision between a truck and a Fiat. As a result of this incident, the driver and passenger of the passenger car were taken to hospital – Małgorzata Wersocka from the press team of the Warsaw Police Headquarters told us. The policewoman added that the drivers were sober.

45 million cars since opening

Not long ago, road engineers were specifying how much cars have passed through the tunnel under Ursynów since its opening. As of December 2021, that’s about 45 million cars in less than two years. At the same time, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways assessed that it was a safe route, as evidenced by the lack of accidents. According to GDDKiA data, last year over 25 million cars passed through the tunnel, of which almost 13 million towards Poznań and over 12.1 million towards Terespol.
