This weekend, April 19-21, road workers will lay the last layer of asphalt on the road of Gagarina Street towards Belwederskaya and at the intersection with Czerniakowska. Drivers in both directions will drive on one stretch of road. The tram route is scheduled to be launched in mid-May.

At the end of last year, drivers returned to Gagarina Street, but cars still drive on the so-called binding layer of the surface. Last weekend, road workers started laying the last, or abrasive, layer. Before the weekend, the works will be completed on the road towards Wisłostrada.

There will be difficulties on Gagarina during the weekend

In the next stage, road workers will work on the road of Gagarina Street towards Belwederska – from Czerniakowska to Sielecka. The works are scheduled from Friday, April 19, from 10 p.m. to Monday, April 22, at 4 a.m. “Traffic in both directions will be on the second line. Czerska and Sielecka streets from the north will lose their connection with Gagarina. They will be accessible from Cadets' side. Those driving towards Belwederska will not turn south from Gagarina into Czerska and Iwicka – towards Chełmska. Departure from Czerska and Sielecka will be possible in both directions, and from Iwicka – towards Czerniakowska, the city hall announces.

The road on Czerniakowska Street towards Wilanów will be closed again. As before, at the intersection with Gagarina, road workers will transfer the traffic to the other line. There will be two straight lanes in each direction, one right turn lane and a separate left turn lane. Drivers will exit from Aleja Polska Walczeja in three lanes in each direction.

Pedestrian crossings through Gagarina and Czernyakowska will remain open.

The final stage of asphalting Gagarina – between Sielecka and Belwederska – is scheduled for next weekend. “As early as mid-May, drivers will be able to drive along Gagarina and Spacerowa streets from Czerniakowska to Puławska in both directions, right next to the tram,” officials assure.

The tracks are ready

The contractor of the route to Wilanów, which will connect with the branch to Gagarina, is working on the section along Goworek and Spacerowa and at the intersection with Belwederska. Most of the rails and turnouts have already been laid, and the overhead contact line is also installed. For May it is planned to restore road traffic in two directions along Spacerowa. At the same time, the connection between Chełmska Street and Jana III Sobieskiego Street will be opened and the entrance to Dolna Street will be closed. The contractor – Budimex – will be able to rebuild the underground installations under the second part of the intersection.

“Budimex is making every effort to ensure that technical runs of the tram on Gagarina and Spacerowa streets are completed by the end of April. Last weekend, tram drivers connected the traction network and power supply to the switches, which will enable the trams to turn at the junction at the junction of Puławska and Goworka. The first tests will be carried out in the following days test technical entries to the tracks towards Spacerowa,” the town hall further informs. And he notes: “The contractor also informs that in September, at the beginning of the school year, the trams will reach Wilanów, at the stop at Branickiego Street. Work is going on intensively – there are now 260 machines at the construction site, and 579 people are working on the route.”
