Work on the construction of a bicycle path along Marszałkowska Street from Królewska to Aleja “Solidarności” is nearing completion. It’s visible to the naked eye, but – as the town hall promises – preparations have started to build a route further north – along Andersa Line. However, the contractor will have almost two years to complete all the works.

The string of Mickiewicza-Andersa-Marszałkowska streets creates a multi-kilometer corridor connecting Bielany and Żoliborz with Śródmieście. “Ultimately, a high-quality, coherent bicycle route should be created here, connecting further districts of Warsaw with its very center. Recently, road designers have focused on Marszałkowska Street itself,” the city hall said in a statement titled “The bicycle spine of Warsaw.”

Work on Marszałkowska Street is coming to an end

Last year, a section was built along Plac Defilad and bicycle routes in the area of the Dmowski roundabout. Currently, the construction of a bicycle path from the intersection with Królewska Street to Aleja “Solidarności”, including the section leading through Bankowy Square, is nearing completion. According to the city hall, the design of the reconstruction of the route on Marszałkowska between Plac Konstytucji and Rondo Dmowskiego is also underway

Path to Andersa – construction tender

Changes are coming to Andersa Street and its surroundings. The Municipal Roads Authority has just announced a tender for the construction of a bicycle route from the Gdański Railway Station to the intersection with Nowolipki Street. There will be a two-way bicycle path on the western side of the street.

“The path will connect into a coherent whole with the existing routes on the streets: Bonifraterska, Świętojerska, Anielewicza and Dawidowskiego,” the city hall clarified. For this purpose, the following will be designated, among others: sets of bicycle rides at the intersections with Stawki Street and Anielewicza Street. Together with numerous additional elements that have already been planned at this stage, over two kilometers of bicycle infrastructure will be added to Śródmieście.

This investment will cover not only Andersa Street. In the next sections, in addition to the bicycle route itself, there will be more greenery. Road workers will replace several traffic lights with more modern ones, rebuild or renovate sidewalks, in particular the old and uneven section on the Anielewicza-Nowolipki section, i.e. along the Square of Political Prisoners of Stalinism.

Bicycle lanes on Międzyparkowa and Miodowa streets will also be connected, marking them on Bonifraterska street running between them, parallel to Andersa. From Andersa Street you will be able to get to this area via a new bicycle connector running along Muranowska Street, between Andersa and Bonifraterska.

Almost two years to complete the investment

The tender also covers the implementation of a project from the civic budget, which is the construction of a bicycle path on the eastern side of Andersa Street on the Świętojerska-Długa section, i.e. along the Krasińscy Garden and at the back of the Municipal Sports Square, along with providing access to the Ratusz-Arsenał metro station.

There will also be more greenery on Świętojerska Street. In many places, unnecessary concrete surfaces will be “slabbed” and replaced by decorative lawns. Such works are also planned in many places on Andersa Street.

The “Design and Build” tender was announced on November 20. The city is waiting for offers until December 18. The selected company will have 20 months to build the bicycle route from the Gdański Railway Station to the intersection with Nowolipki Street, counting from the moment of signing the contract. This means that, according to the plan, the works will be carried out in 2024-25.

By bike along Mickiewicza and Solidarności Avenue. When?

At the same time, the design of an earlier section of the bicycle path on Andersa is underway, i.e. from Bankowy Square to Nowolipki Street, through Solidarności Avenue.

The further section of this route is also being designed – on Mickiewicza Street, i.e. from the Gdański Railway Station area to Wilsona Square. A bicycle route is also being prepared in Solidarności Avenue and Leszno Street. First, a section will be built between Jana Pawła II Avenue and Okopowa Street.
