The Royal Route and the Old Town lit up with Christmas illumination. The city’s ice rink in the Old Town Square was also illuminated. The colorful lights turned on on Wednesday before 4 p.m. along with the street lamps. On Thursday, the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, will turn on the lights on the 27-meter Christmas tree at Castle Square.
This year, on the Royal Route and Świętokrzyska Street, there were light attractions recalling the times of Stefan Wiechecki “Wiech”, Tadeusz Konwicki and Agnieszka Osiecka. There are also baubles, Christmas tree lights and chains made of bark paper, but also saturators, a store scale and a telephone with a dial. You can see the illuminated mermaid, the legend of Polish roads, and the iconic lynx moped.
“In this way, the youngest will get to know the atmosphere of their grandparents’ childhood. And on Hoover Square, children will also be able to enjoy retro carousels and toys” – informed the capital city hall.
On weekends, the Royal Route is a promenade
After leaving Castle Square, you will immediately be amazed by the large, 8.5-meter-high “Warsaw” inscription. On Krakowskie Przedmieście street lamps were decorated with green garlands decorated with over 500 huge light bulbs inspired by the most popular Christmas tree lights from the factory in Pabianice years ago.
“On both sides of the route, the trees will be decorated with digital RGB lamps, which, thanks to the use of an intelligent control system, will present specially selected colors corresponding to particular seasons. Thus, they will create a colorful journey from spring to winter,” announced the town hall.
“So that city residents and guests can admire the light decorations in comfortable conditions, on all December weekends, as well as during the Christmas and New Year period, Nowy Świat and Krakowskie Przedmieście streets will turn into a promenade again,” he added.
On Wednesday, December 6, the ice rink at the Old Town Square, very popular among Warsaw residents, was also opened.
They worked for 132 days, 40 people were involved
All illuminations will be visible until approximately mid-February next year. These installations were designed for Warsaw by Multidekor, whose offer was once again selected by the capital’s Municipal Roads Authority. They are made in energy-saving technology using LED diodes.
It took 132 days to prepare all the installations. More than 40 people were responsible for the assembly.
Rafał Trzaskowski will turn on the lights on the large Christmas tree
At Castle Square, as every year, a magnificent 27-meter Christmas tree made of energy-saving and modern materials was erected. It will be illuminated by over 40,000 RGB LED lights. The illumination will be ceremonially turned on on Thursday, December 7, at 6 p.m., by President Rafał Trzaskowski.
On Saturday, December 9, at 6 p.m., the Five Corners Square will be illuminated. Later, there will be a silent disco-style party – Jacob Core and MJ.SAX will play Christmas rhythms.
On December 15, a new mapping will be launched on the facade of the Staszic Palace, the building of the Polish Academy of Sciences on Krakowskie Przedmieście. Animations measuring 1,200 sq m. will present a modern collage of holiday and scientific motifs with the central figure of Nicolaus Copernicus. The screenings will be available from Friday to Sunday at full hours – from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
