The Capital City Development Authority and PKP PLK announced a tender for the construction of a tunnel under the railway tracks in Rembertów. As part of it, the surrounding streets will also be rebuilt. The schedule for the long-awaited investment assumes that everything will be completed in less than 2.5 years.
The number one topic in Rembertów for many years has been the construction of a collision-free crossing of the international railway line that runs through the district. Hundreds of trains traverse the line every day: freight, long-distance and local. The barriers between Marsa Street and General Chruściel “Montera” Avenue fall every few minutes, which causes drivers to get stuck in traffic jams regardless of the time of day.
On Monday, September 30, a tender was announced for the construction of a tunnel that will connect Stary and Nowy Rembertów.
Tunnel and changes to surrounding streets
As the capital city hall explained in a statement, the new road leading to the tunnel will start at the intersection of Marsa and Ilskiego streets, where a roundabout will be built.
“The tunnel, running under the railway tracks and Cyrulików Street, will have one road with two lanes and new bus stops. They will be connected to the underground passages leading to the railway platform using connectors. The exit from the tunnel is planned in the middle of al. Chruściela 'Montera', at the height of ul. Gwiazdacka – officials describe the new investment.
The communication system in the tunnel area will also change significantly. At the intersection of al. Chruściel “Monter” from ul. A roundabout will be built at Cyrulików, which will provide all turning routes, including the possibility of turning around.
In turn, Bellony Street from the intersection with Pociskowa to the closed crossing and Marsa Street from the crossing to Ilskiego were designed as one-way roads towards the roundabout, with a bicycle contraflow lane. In addition, Pociskowa Street will be connected to Ilskiego Street. It will be a two-way road with sidewalks on both sides and will provide access to properties adjacent to the road, including the shopping center located here.
Pedestrian comfort will also improve. Sidewalks on the south side of the railway tracks will be on both sides of the road. The one on the left will lead from the Marsa/Ilski intersection to the western underpass to the railway platform, and the right-hand sidewalk will lead to the eastern passage. The new sidewalks will be located at ground level and will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. In turn, on the northern side of the railway tracks, sidewalks will be built on both sides of al. Chruściela “Montera” and ul. Barbershops.
“Companies interested in submitting offers have until November 22. The selected contractor will complete the work within 29 months. A street is also to be built together with the tunnel. Pociskowa,” the town hall reported.
