Legionnaire, host, planner, promoter, resident. Lectures organized by the Warsaw Uprising Museum will be devoted to these five faces of Stefan Starzyński.
The year 2023 was designated by the Warsaw Council as the Year of President Stefan Starzyński to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of a distinguished Warsaw resident, legionnaire, political activist and the last president of pre-war Warsaw.
On this occasion, the Warsaw Uprising Museum has prepared a series of lectures titled “Stefan Starzyński. From Warsaw to legend”. During subsequent meetings, participants will learn, among other things, what the city looked like in 1934 and what the political, social and economic situation was when Starzyński was appointed commissioner of the mayor of Warsaw.
As the museum announces, the first lecture will take place next Tuesday and will be devoted to the hero’s youth under the partitions, the school of life in the Legions and the road with the marshal to Warsaw.
Tuesdays with Starzyński at the Liberator
The lecture will be delivered by Grzegorz Mika, architect, popularizer of knowledge about architecture, author of architectural books and walks, as well as creator of the profile “Warsaw Modernism 1905 – 1939”. Mika has been cooperating with the Warsaw Uprising Museum for several years and gave many lectures broadcast on MPW social media.
– This series will be held on-site, although it will be recorded. After the times of Covid, when everything was done remotely, there is a great need for meetings, both on our part and on our part. Therefore, this and subsequent lectures will be held in the auditorium of the Liberator Room at our headquarters – says Anna Kotonowicz, spokeswoman of the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
The first lecture will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. Subsequent meetings will be held on Tuesdays: October 24, November 7, December 5, December 12. Admission is free.
