Warsaw councilors will decide to grant one -off financial support for children of officers and rescuers who died during their service. The benefit will be PLN 12,000.
The draft resolution on a one -time benefit “for children of officers and rescuers who died as a result of events that took place during the service related to the protection of life, health, property or protection of public safety and order” was in the agenda of the Thursday session of the Warsaw Council.
PLN 12,000 for children of deceased rescuers and officers
According to the design, such support is the amount of PLN 12,000 paid at a time. The benefit applies to children: policemen, professional firefighters and TSOs, city guards, paramedics, water rescuers who died during his service. Support is granted to a child who at the time of the parent's death was under 18, living in Warsaw. The child's right to benefit is entitled to a child who died in 2024 or in 2025 before the resolution entered into force. The application should be submitted at the latest eight months from death.
In the justification of the draft resolution, it was explained that “this position was taken after events that took place in 2024 in Warsaw, such as the death of a policeman on duty or an ambulance accident.”
It was pointed out that the services to which the resolution relates was determined in terms of their tasks and the important role that rests on them from the point of view of ensuring security in the city. “These are services conducting rescue operations during fires, natural disasters, accidents and other threats requiring immediate rescue. Directly direct impact on the safety of the inhabitants of Warsaw and other people who stay in its area. mass threats caused, for example, by the operation of nature forces, whose scale and area is very large ” – we read in the justification.
Tragic events
The draft resolution was arisen in response to tragic events from last year. In November at Enginery Street in Praga North there was a fatal shooting of a policeman on duty. Two police patrols intervened regarding an aggressive man. One of the policemen used a weapon, as a result of which the other, 34-year-old officer was wounded, died in the hospital. He orphaned two young children.
Other two events involving paramedics occurred in the vicinity of Warsaw. Also in November, in Jedlińsk near Radom, An ambulance accident occurred. As a result of a collision with a passenger car, the ambulance rolled over and swept on the road several times. A paramedic was killed, the driver was hospitalized.
At the end of January this year in Siedlce The emergency medical team came at a call to one of the apartments at Sobieskiego Street. On site, rescuers assisted a 59-year-old man with head wounds. At one point, the 59-year-old wounded a 64-year-old medic with a knife. The wounded was taken to the hospital, where he died.
