Warsaw. Enough violence against children. Social rally in front of the Sejm building

On Thursday, dozens of people gathered in front of the Sejm building. They want changes in the legal system that will effectively protect children from violence. On Thursday, the Sejm is to deal with the draft amendment to the Family and Guardianship Code, the so-called Kamil’s Act. The bill has been waiting in the Sejm for over a month.

Those gathered at the rally in front of the Sejm emphasized that the system was ineffective because the media reported on more cases of violence against children. We demand systemic changes. The point is that those in power try to do something to prevent violence. If this is still happening, then too little is still being done. We want to exert pressure, give our voice to specific changes in the system – said Mr. Wojciech in an interview with a TVN24 reporter.

– I was very moved by Kamil’s case. In my opinion, the Polish state betrayed him. This is not the first child who has been treated in this way – said Mrs Patrycja, holding a banner with the slogan “Enough violence against children”. And she added: – It cannot be that children suffer in Poland. We have to change it.

In the fourthk The Sejm will deal with the so-called “Kamilek Act”, i.e. a draft amendment to the Family and Guardianship Code. The bill has been waiting in the Sejm for over a month. According to the work schedule, the deputies will spend an hour and a half on the draft in the evening – between 19.15 and 20.45.

What is the “Kamilek Act”?

The “Kamilek Act” was presented after the death caused outrage eight-year-old Kamil from Częstochowawho was tortured by his stepfather. The case of the boy’s abuse had come to light more than a month earlier, following a report made on April 3 by the child’s biological father.

The amendment was submitted to the Sejm on May 12 by Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski from Sovereign Poland. However, its co-creators are independent professionals, and the project was supported by several dozen non-governmental organizations, including the Empowering Children Foundation and the Committee for the Protection of Children’s Rights.

Under the amendment, among other things, the Serious Case Review system is to be created, which will introduce a systemic analysis of violence against children that ends in their death. In addition, mandatory training for family judges or standards for the protection of minors in institutions, e.g. schools, hospitals, sports centers.
