At the turn of 2024 and 2025, railway workers are to choose a corridor in which the line from Warsaw towards Nasielsk will be expanded. Construction works will start no earlier than 2030. As part of this investment, the Warszawa Choszczówka stop will be moved.
Filip Pelc, a councilor from Białołęka, asked about the plans of PKP PLK in the context of expanding the railway line to Nasielsk in an interpellation. This is an investment called: “Increasing capacity on the section Warszawa Wschodnia – Nasielsk (Kątne/Świercze)”.
PKP PLK signed a contract to prepare a feasibility study for the expansion of the line in July 2020. The company preparing the study, Databout, drew seven corridors in which the new route could run. Two of them were selected for which detailed technical analyzes are being prepared.
They will choose the corridor
Councilor Pelc asked: when the target variant of the route will be selected, whether noise barriers will be built as part of the investment and about the planned change of the location of the Warszawa Choszczówka stop.
In response to an interpellation sent by the mayor of Białołęka to railway workers, PKP PLK explained that work on the development of pre-design documentation was ongoing. “At the turn of 2024 and 2025, the company's management board is planned to make a decision regarding the choice of the corridor together with investment variants and sending it to further study work, which should be completed in 2026,” we read in response to the interpellation.
“If a positive decision is made to implement further stages of the project, i.e. development of design documentation, obtaining administrative decisions, and then implementation of construction works, in accordance with current forecasts, the first construction works could start no earlier than in 2030,” the letter said. .
Moreover, it was announced that the investment will involve changing the location of the Warszawa Choszczówka stop, which is to be moved towards the road viaduct along Jeżowskiego Street.
The letter also included information about noise barriers along the railway route. The documents needed to obtain financing for their construction are being prepared. According to the announcements, they are to be built in 2026-2028.
Residents' protests
As we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, the planned expansion of the railway line towards Nasielsk sparked protests among the residents of the communes located north of Białołęka: Legionowa, Wieliszew and Jabłonna. Residents and local authorities emphasize that they want to increase capacity, but not at the expense of their properties and the natural environment.
