It was a father’s trip with three children, they were sailing on a rented boat on the Vistula River. When they were near the Poniatowski bridge, the engine suddenly stopped, and the current began to carry them to the sandbank by the pillar.

City guards, who were patrolling the Vistula River just after 12 noon on July 11, noticed a wooden boat with a man and three small children. In the vicinity of the Poniatowski bridge, the boat driver began to have problems with the engine and desperately tried to start it. Unfortunately, this did not bring any effect, and the current began to carry the boat with passengers to a sandbar by one of the bridge’s pillars.

– Seeing us, the man started waving his hands for us to swim. As we approached, we saw nervous toddlers aged two to six. They were all wearing life jackets, but the youngest was crying. He reported that he had problems with the engine and could not restart it, said senior inspector Mirosław Employee from the specialist department of the Warsaw City Guard, quoted in the message.

The guards helped the frightened children to the patrol boat, and towed their father and the boat to the beach at the Czerniakowski harbour.

City guards emphasize that this time the unfortunate adventure ended with a happy ending. However, they advise against boating on the Vistula to people who are unfamiliar with the river and the previously rented equipment.
