On Friday, firefighters issued a positive safety opinion on the tunnel of the South Bypass of Warsaw – said the brig. Karol Kierzkowski from the State Fire Service. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, in turn, ensures that the S2 section will be ready this autumn.

On Friday, brig. Karol Kierzkowski from the State Fire Service said that the acceptance of the fire ventilation system in the tunnel of the Southern Ring Road of Warsaw has been completed. “We gave a positive fire safety opinion,” said the firefighter.

Małgorzata Tarnowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Małgorzata Tarnowska, informed about the completion of the inspection of firefighters in the POW tunnel. – We have a positive position of the PSP. On Monday, we will submit the received documents to the Provincial Inspectorate of Construction Supervision – said Tarnowska.

The route will be ready this year

– After obtaining the occupancy permit, the last step will be to obtain the consent of the Mazowieckie voivode. S2 between the Puławska and Warszawa Wilanów junctions will be put into service in the fall of this year – added a spokeswoman for the Warsaw GDDKiA.

This was the second commissioning of the fire brigade in the POW tunnel. In mid-October, the first decision of the firefighters was negative, because the ventilation in the tunnel of the South Bypass of Warsaw did not achieve the required final parameters during the tests. One of the six fans was malfunctioning.

The repaired fan has returned from Portugal. The firefighters entered the POW tunnel again

Brig. Karol Kierzkowski indicated then that the firefighters’ decision was due to the fact that the ventilation, which would remove all toxins, exhaust fumes and smoke, did not meet the parameters. “There are six fans, one of which is defective,” explained the firefighter. All other fire safety related items such as detection, smoke vents, circuit breakers, fire service and water supply were working properly.

The Ursynów tunnel is part of the Southern Bypass of Warsaw. From December 22, 2020, drivers have at their disposal an over 15-kilometer section of this route between the Warszawa-Wilanów and Lubelska junctions, along with the bridge over the Vistula. The route can be accessed through four interchanges: Warszawa-Wilanów, Wał Miedzeszyński, Patriotów and Lubelska.

The total cost of the construction of the three sections of S2, constituting a part of the Southern Bypass of Warsaw, is approximately PLN 4.6 billion, of which nearly PLN 1.7 billion is co-financing from the European Union under the infrastructure and environment operational program

A park is to be built over the POW tunnel, they want to plant 700 trees and 28,000 bushes there.
