In summer, pedestrians and customers of restaurants will have more space at Zbawiciela Square. From June 15, special traffic organization will be in force there – informed the Municipal Roads Authority in Warsaw. Until the end of September, one lane on the square will be closed to car traffic.

“On the night from Friday to Saturday, June 14-15, yellow temporary traffic organization markings will appear at the entrances and exits, and the outer lane of the roundabout will be fenced with concrete barriers,” ZDM said in a statement. The changes will be valid for over three months – until Sunday, September 29

“In exchange for temporarily fenced parking spaces directly at Zbawiciela Square, drivers will be able to park in the right lane of Marszałkowska Street, between the bus stop and the square,” the road engineers added.

Compromise at Savior Square

A project to occupy one lane of the Zbawiciela Square road for the purpose of catering gardens introduced on a pilot basis in August 2020. The idea was warmly welcomed by both restaurateurs and residents, who like to spend their free time in several establishments located in the square during the summer season.

Occupying one lane was a compromise to the idea of activists from the Miasto Jest Nasze association, who proposed to close the entire square to car traffic for the summer. In their opinion, this would not constitute a serious inconvenience to drivers, as there are large communication routes nearby.

The project was continued in subsequent years until 2023. Then the Traffic Management Office did not agree to close the roadway due to the large concentration of difficulties in connection with the construction of the tram line to Wilanów.
