Former Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz was sentenced to a fine for evading the obligation to pay maintenance to his ex-wife Izabela. The prosecution does not agree with the court’s decision. Its representative emphasizes that “the punishment is inadequate”.

The “Super Express” newspaper was the first to inform about the sentence for Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.

The details of the case were provided to us by prosecutor Szymon Banna, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. He explained that on June 22, 2023, the politician was accused of evading the maintenance obligation specified by court decisions in favor of his ex-wife Izabela. It is about the period from November 2022 to March 2023. As it turned out, the court acted quickly in this case.

– On July 13, 2023, the District Court in Warsaw issued a prescriptive judgment, sentencing Kazimierz M. to a fine of 200 daily rates, PLN 20 each, and ordered him to bear the costs of the trial, Banna said.

Prosecutor’s office: the fine is inadequate

The prosecution does not agree with the verdict in the form of a fine. – The District Prosecutor’s Office for Warsaw – Ochota in Warsaw filed an objection to the penal order, pointing out that the fine is inadequate in the circumstances, in particular taking into account the fact that Kazimierz M. has an unsettled maintenance obligation – explains Szymon Banna.

The prosecutor also reminded that the case was initiated by a notification of suspicion of committing the crime of evading the obligation to pay maintenance, submitted by Izabela O.-M. This offense is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to one year.

Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz did not comment on the verdict. – If I receive official information from the court, I will respond to the case – he told “Super Express”.

We also wrote about Marcinkiewicz’s sentencing to social work for evading paying maintenance to his ex-wife in February. That one also fell in prescriptive mode. The former prime minister called the sentence “hooded”. – This is Zbigniew Ziobro’s (Justice Minister, Prosecutor General – ed.) campaign against me, it is political revenge against me. Ziobro pursues me wherever he can – Marcinkiewicz told Onet.
