Warsaw councilors adopted on Thursday a resolution increasing property taxes. 40 councilors voted for, 6 were against, and 10 abstained.

Pursuant to the resolution, the monthly tax rate will be PLN 0.90 per square meter of usable floor space in residential buildings. This is four groszy more than the rate in force in 2021.

A higher tax will have to be paid by entrepreneurs running a business there. Next year, the rate will be PLN 25.74 per square meter of usable space in buildings related to running business activities and residential buildings used for business activities. This is PLN 0.9 more than the rate in force in 2021.

How much will the tax increase?

According to the calculations of the town hall, a change in tax rates will affect the amount of the tax liability due. For example, for a taxpayer who owns an apartment with a usable area of 70 sq m with a share in the land with an area of 30 sq m, the amount of tax liability for 2022, in relation to the liability for 2021, per month will increase by the amount of 33 groszes.

On the other hand, the owner of a house with a usable area of 150 sq m, together with a plot of land with an area of 800 sq m, will pay in 2022, in relation to the commitment for 2021, per one month more by PLN 1.83.

The City Hall estimates that the change in real estate tax rates will increase revenues by PLN 32.34 million in the budget year 2022 compared to 2021.

Property taxes have grown in a similar fashion in recent years. In 2019, Warsaw residents paid PLN 0.19 per square meter a month, in 2020 – PLN 0.11, and this year – PLN 0.25.
