– For me it was a very sad situation, it should not happen – said the former Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights, Dr. Hanna Machińska, commenting on the cancellation of her lecture at the University of Warsaw. As agreed with the rector of the university, the lecture is to be held at a different time.
– With the rector (Alojzy Z. Nowak – ed.) I had such a long conversation today, a very long one. And we agreed that the full lecture will take place on another agreed date – she said on Tuesday in an interview with our journalist Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska. When asked why – in her opinion – the lecture was canceled on the originally planned date and whether it was actually technical problems referred to by the university authorities, she replied: – As for the photo of the lecture, I refer to the official version – technical reasons. Of course, I was ready (…) but there were other decisions.
When asked if it was her person who was the problem, she said that it was not. – Maybe I offended someone, maybe the topic is controversial? she wondered. – But the university is just such a space where we have to talk, talk about various difficult controversial matters. This is a space of freedom, a space of freedom of expression, I would not like to intrude, what were the reasons.
“For me it was a very sad situation”
Dr. Hanna Machińska assessed that such a situation should never happen and that “it is very awkward for the university”. – Suddenly it turned out that there was a problem with one of the many lectures. After all, at the university, as part of this series, we had a lot of lectures on difficult topics (…) For me, it was a very unpleasant situation. This is my university and I believe that this should not happen at this university. It happened, so now we have to get out of it. (…) I am glad that we have found a way out of this difficult situation.
Machińska maintained that she would appear on Tuesday next to the Old Library of Warsaw University, where her lecture was originally planned. Earlier, she announced that she would come, if only to apologize to those who did not receive information about the cancellation of the event. – We will meet, I’m sure many people will come. We will talk and there will be some introduction to this lecture – announced the lawyer.
Lecture canceled for “technical reasons”
Recall: the authorities of the University of Warsaw canceled the lecture “And the walls will fall, rune, rune”, which was to take place on January 17 in the hall of the old library of the Medical University on the main campus. The lecture was to be given by Dr. Hanna Machińska, who was dismissed from the position of Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights in December. The official reason was “technical reasons”. Machińska was to find out about the cancellation of the event by chance, from a friend. The organizer of the cycle, the former rector of the University of Warsaw, prof. Piotr Węgleński.
Later, the “technical reasons” apparently ceased, because Rector Alojzy Z. Nowak informed in a statement that the hall is at the disposal of the organizers.
