Warsaw Public Transport informed on Sunday, August 4, that the operation of the ferries “Słonka”, “Pliszka”, “Wilga” is suspended until further notice. The reason is the low water level in the Vistula. Currently, the river level is in the low zone along most of its course. Is this a reason for concern?
Warsaw is struggling with low water levels in the Vistula River. Ferries have stopped running
Some of the city's ferries travel along the capital's Vistula boulevards. According to measurements, the water level there is only 39 centimeters. However, this is not a critical situation, because the lowest level was recorded in 2015 and 2018. At that time, it was only 26 centimeters.
Three suspended ferries are part of Warsaw public transport, used by both pedestrians and cyclists. They run free of charge in the spring and summer seasons in both directions from one bank of the Vistula to the other. The Słonka ferry connects Cypel Czerniakowski with the beach on Saska Kępa in the area The Bridge Łazienkowskiego. In turn, Wilga runs from Podzamcze in the area of the Fountain Park to the beach in Praga Północ, located near the Warsaw Zoo. Pliszka, on the other hand, runs from the area of the Poniatowski Bridge to the beach by the National Stadium.
