Warsaw. Hashtag Lab – a space for contemporary music at Barska Street

The Hashtag Lab Contemporary Music Space is already operating in Ochota. It is the first and only permanent stage for new music in Poland. On the occasion of the opening, sound installations, concerts and stories await visitors over the weekend.

The institution was opened at 29 Barska Street, in a modernist villa in Old Ochota. Hashtag Lab is run by the Sfera Harmonii Foundation and has just started its activity as a Social Institution of Culture of the Capital City of Warsaw. of Warsaw.

Support for the contemporary music community

– For us, this is a special moment, because it is another opening of the Social Institution of Culture, the fifth one in Warsaw, but the first one that deals with new music. I hope that it will be a place that will support the whole environment of contemporary and new music, and that musicians will feel good here and will provide Varsovians with many musical emotions – said Aldona Machnowska-Góra, Vice Mayor of Warsaw, at the opening of the new Social Institution of Culture.

Until Saturday, inside the beautiful villa, guests are shown around by members of the Hashtag Ensemble cooperative, who talk about the plans of the new institution.

On Friday, visitors could also watch Wojciech Błażejczyk’s interactive installation #Network Music and listen to a conversation with the author. The projection of the Venetian video-opera was also presented on the Hashtag Lab’s patio. Joanna Freszel, Hashtag Ensemble instrumentalists and harpsichordist Gośka Isphording took the participants on a gondola ride. Video projections were prepared by Pia Partum and Aleksandra Ołdak.

On Saturday, a three-part opening concert

The climax of the opening of the Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab is Saturday’s three-part opening concert. At 20.00 on the Hashtag Labu stage, Martyna Kosecka and Idin Samimi Mofakham will present the song “Surge” – an artistic voice on the crimes taking place in Iran. And at 21.00 there will be a concert of the hosts – the Hashtag Ensemble. The program of the concert included the famous pieces by Peter Maxwell Davies “Eight Songs for a Mad King” (1969) and Louis Joseph Andriessen “Workers Union” (1975). The opening of the Contemporary Music Space will end with a DJ set performed by the duo Ryterski Live /sensitive.

Admission to all events is free.
