Warsaw. He climbed the Smolensk monument and put the services on their feet. Last year he did the same

The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. As Jacek Wiśniewski from the press office of the Warsaw Police Headquarters told us, a man with an object resembling a weapon entered the Smolensk monument. He threatens to commit suicide if the services approach him.

A group of police negotiators and other forces were called to the scene. – The area is secured. No one was hurt, Jacek Wiśniewski told us.

The Commander of the Capital Police announced an alarm in the garrison, which means that police officers from various departments were called urgently.

As we found out, this is the same man who put the services back on their feet just before the elections – on October 14, 2023. Then Krzysztof B. came by train from Lublin to Warsaw and then went to Piłsudski Square. He had a bag which, as it later turned out, contained a megaphone and personal items. At first he behaved like a typical tourist. He approached and took photos. Eventually, however, he climbed the steps of the monument. The police asked him to come down, but he threatened to detonate an explosive if they tried to get him down.

He took out the “detonator” as evidence. B. climbed to the very top of the monument and continued threatening to detonate the “bomb”. Police officers from various departments were brought to their feet and pyrotechnicians were also called. Everyone was evacuated from Piłsudski Square.

The police detained several random people because they suspected that B. was acting in concert with someone. He demanded to speak to a police negotiator, to whom he conveyed his demands. What? He wanted the media to be notified about the incident and to be notified about the “crimes he disclosed” to the Police Commander-in-Chief. As he claimed, he collected the evidence on a pendrive he had with him.

The police detained B. and dragged him from the monument when they realized that he did not have any explosives. The “detonator” was a pen with a taped cord extending into the bag.

Ultimately, Krzysztof B. was charged with “creating a situation intended to cause a belief in the existence of a threat.” The indictment in this case was submitted to court in May this year.

B. pleaded not guilty and gave explanations. He told investigators that he had planned everything two years ago. He intended to create the so-called viral, which would circulate on the Internet and thus publicize the “cases of corruption and international espionage operations to the detriment of the Polish state” revealed by him. He said he had no explosives and did not intend to harm anyone.

During a search of the apartment belonging to Krzysztof B., the police seized a black powder revolver and black powder belonging to him, possession of which is legal.

Why did B. have such items at home? As he explained, “he is a prepper and prepares for difficult times”, including: collecting food and water.

In his opinion, he “acted in a state of extreme necessity”.

The man was to answer freely in court.
