Warsaw. He hit a scooter rider and was stopped by witnesses. The driver of the delivery vehicle was drunk

The incident took place on October 8 before 7 p.m. At that time, city guards were patrolling Grochów. Reaching the intersection of Szaserów and Chłopicki streets, they noticed a group of people signaling to them to stop the police car.

“One of these people, pointing to the man, informed the guards that a moment earlier, while driving a Mercedes delivery van, he had hit a person riding a scooter. Seeing that the perpetrator had not stopped after the accident, passers-by reacted when the car stopped at the intersection. Less than 200 meters away, at Płowce Street, a scooter was lying on the street, and next to it on the grass there was a man,” we read in the press release of the Warsaw City Guard.

Witnesses called the police and an ambulance to the scene. One of the guards took care of the perpetrator, the other ran to the injured scooter driver. He was a 30-year-old citizen of Turkmenistan. “He was dizzy, but conscious, and complained of pain in his stomach and cervical spine. The guard took care of the injured person until the ambulance arrived. The man was taken to hospital,” the guards described.

In turn, the 36-year-old Mercedes driver – a citizen of Ukraine – was put in the guards’ police car. “The man smelled of alcohol, he claimed that he had drunk three beers. They must have been very strong, because a breathalyzer test performed a little later by the police showed 2.5 per mille of alcohol in the exhaled air. The perpetrator of the accident was detained by the police,” the city guard said.

The officers emphasize that the arrest of the drunk driver was possible thanks to the civic attitude of the witnesses of the incident.
