Trams Warszawskie announced that two new vehicles from Hyundai will enter the tracks this fall. It also indicated two lines where you can expect Korean trams. However, before that happens, the residents of the capital will have the opportunity to check the new rolling stock during the Saturday parade.

On Friday, journalists had the opportunity to ride the new Hyundai’s new tram. The route led from the Metro Młociny terminus to Winnica and back. By the way, we asked the spokesman of Warsaw Trams, Maciej Dutkiewicz, when the new trains will go on a regular route. – Varsovians and Varsovians will take the first two new trams this fall – declares Dutkiewicz, although he even specifies which month it is about.

The company is considering two lines on which the new trains could run: – We are considering 17 [z PKP Służewiec na Winnicę – red.] and 9 [z Ronda Wiatraczna na aleję Krakowską – red]. We only consider long lines that cross the entire city, and the former is the longest route in Warsaw – it is 23 kilometers long. Ultimately, however, the Public Transport Authority will choose the line on which the new trains will appear.

Meanwhile, more trams from Korean suppliers in a one-way version are already sailing to Europe. – A dozen more are to come this year. The pickups will start at the turn of this and next year. Next year, two wagons will enter service a week – informs the spokesman of the TW.

Before the new trams set out on a regular route, the inhabitants of the capital will have the opportunity to test them during the parade. – On Saturday, we are organizing a tram parade as part of the Public Transport Days. We start at 12.00 on Narutowicz Square. The oldest 114-year-old car and the youngest tram from Hyundai will go there. There will also be other wagons – a “berlinka” from the 1930s and a “sausage” from the 1960s. After the parade, we wait for an exhibition on Narutowicza Square until 6 pm – encourages Dutkiewicz.

A tram called …?

Meanwhile, the city and tram drivers announced a competition for the name of the trams from Hyundai. It has become a kind of tradition that the trains running on the Warsaw tracks are given special names, but this time the officials also invited passengers to cooperate. As they explain, they want the new name of the trams to “reflect the spirit of the capital and its inhabitants as much as possible”.

You can submit your name suggestions until September 30 in two ways: electronically, using the form on the Warsaw Trams website or via the competition form, available during the Public Transport Days celebrations, which will take place on Saturday, September 18, between 12.00 and 18.00 at Narutowicza Square. The jury will select five names from the submitted ideas. Its members were: prof. Grażyna Majkowska and prof. Jerzy Bralczyk from the University of Warsaw, Łukasz Ostoja-Kasprzycki from PoWarszawsk, Katarzyna Strzegowska from the Public Transport Authority and Konrad Niklewicz from the Warsaw Trams. According to the city, the winning name will be selected by voting via the Warsaw Trams Facebook profile, and its author will receive an award.
