The prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into the death of a man escorted by the police for questioning. It is being investigated how the 42-year-old suffered the injuries that led to his death. At this stage of the proceedings, investigators ruled out the involvement of third parties.
We reported on Friday the death of a man who was escorted by the police for questioning. In connection with the tragic event at Solidarności Avenue near the Wileński Railway Station, the police and the prosecutor's office took action. The inmate was transported from the Warsaw-Białołęka Remand Center to the prosecutor's office for questioning.
The circumstances of the inmate's death are being investigated by the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office. – We have received partial materials from the activities carried out on Friday in this case. Based on them, the prosecutor issued a decision to initiate an investigation into an offense under Article 151 of the Penal Code and ordered an autopsy to be performed as soon as possible, says prosecutor Norbert WoliÅ„ski, spokesman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office.
As he explains in an interview with tvnwarszawa.pl, the partial transfer of materials was intended to enable the autopsy of the deceased 42-year-old to be performed as quickly as possible.
Prosecutor's Office: There is no indication of the involvement of third parties
Article 151 of the Penal Code, which states: “whoever, by instigation or by providing assistance, causes a person to take his own life, shall be subject to the penalty of imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.” Prosecutor WoliÅ„ski emphasizes that this is a standard legal qualification in this type of cases. – No circumstances in this case indicate the involvement of third parties in the death of this man – he reserves.
The prosecutor's office has not yet commented on how the 42-year-old was injured. Let us recall that, according to unofficial findings by our reporter Artur WÄ™grzynowicz, the man had an extensive neck wound and died as a result of bleeding to death. – The policemen were to testify that the man injured himself with the handcuffs he was wearing – our journalist found out.
The police are investigating the case and the officers have not been suspended
We asked the spokesman of the Warsaw Police Headquarters, junior inspector Robert Szumiata, what actions the police are taking regarding the death of the man in escort. – All necessary actions were implemented immediately after the incident. The Police Internal Affairs Bureau and the prosecutor's office were notified about the case. The Control Department of the Warsaw Police Headquarters is carrying out its investigation activities, he noted.
He also added that the policemen who escorted the inmate were not suspended for the duration of the investigation.
