The capital's road workers have summed up the level of advancement of the renovation of Krakowskie Przedmieście. They assure that 80 percent of the work has already been done. What else remains to be done?

The final stage of repairing the surface of the Royal Route on the section between Miodowa and Królewska began in the last week of June. Miodowa Street was the first to be repaired in 2017 and 2018. It was then that they managed to develop technology that – in the opinion of road workers – can withstand intensive bus traffic.

In 2019, the Municipal Roads Authority returned to Krakowskie Przedmieście and part of Nowy Świat, where the same technology was used during the renovation of the road surface on the section from Świętokrzyska to Królewska Streets.

As they announced, the most burdensome scope of work related to the necessity to close the Royal Route to traffic is to be completed by the end of the summer holidays.

There are only two weeks left until the start of the school year. What has been accomplished and how much is left to do?

“To date, we have laid over 4,000 square meters of new paving stones on the entire renovated section. The entire scope amounts to 5,200 square meters, which means that the progress of the works is already 80 percent. At the same time, the last demolitions of the old surface have been completed in the past few days,” the Municipal Roads Authority informed in a press release.

Road workers indicate that the main thing left to do is to lay the cobblestones in the bus bays. “The work is progressing as more material is delivered,” they assure.

More than 40 people on site

In addition, this week, on the section from Miodowa to the Presidential Palace, grouting of the gaps between the cubes is taking place. “This is a laborious and quite complicated process. The contractor has delegated a special team to carry out this task,” emphasizes ZDM.

In addition to grouting, expansion joints will also need to be done. This stage of work is scheduled for the last week of August.

“We are currently at the peak of implementation work. There are over 40 people working on the construction site, and welding takes place from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The delivery of the material and its installation in such a short time is a major logistical challenge – fortunately, the contractor is coping well with it,” the road workers emphasize.
