Kulon's chick has excluded in the birdie of the capital's zoo. This is a species considered in Poland regionally extinct. The last breeding of this bird in our country was recorded in 1995.

“For a week, a couple of Kulon has been looking after the chick. The toddler grows very quickly, and his extremely well -blended in the background masking plumage causes that many visitors do not notice it at all,” the capital's zoo in the social media informed in social media.

Since the mid -1990s, a breeding group of these birds has been living in the Warsaw zoo, which can contribute to the reconstruction of the Kulon national population in nature.

ZOO employees said that in the 20th century Kulon was referred to as a species extremely low, and its national population was limited to only two or four couples. The last breeding of Kulon recorded in Poland comes from 1995. Therefore, the Kulon in Poland is currently considered a regionly species.

It is hard to notice

Kulon is a bird of large pigeon. He has a slim figure on tall, yellowish legs. Characteristic for Kulon are large, yellow eyes adapted to see in the dark.

Kulon is the most active at dusk and at night. He speaks a loud “kjurlia” reminiscent of the voice of a great kul. It is very difficult to notice. When he feels threatened, he freezes. He breaks up to the flight only from under the observer's feet.

Is a traveling bird. He comes to us in April and flies away from August at mid -October. It occurs in Europe outside the middle and east, in the northern part of Africa, as well as in some regions of Asia.

The last Kulona positions in Poland were in the Bug and Narew Valley. This species is strictly protected.
